Play Web Agency, a small studio

We build fast websites, big directories and card games that run in a browser.

A small studio. We write plain HTML where we can, add JavaScript where it earns its place, and publish notes on how we work.

Kinds of site we build

Examples from public sites run by people connected to the studio. No client logos, no invented results.

Services

01WebsitesStatic sites for small publishers and businesses, with scripting only where needed.02Directory sitesThousands of listing pages, filters, structured data and editorial guides.03Browser and mobile card gamesRules engines, computer opponents and touch-friendly tables.

How a project runs

Five steps, the same for a ten-page site or a directory with thousands of listings. The services page explains how we scope and price work.

  1. 01

    Written scope

The pages, the data, and what is in and what is out, agreed on paper before any code.

  2. 02

    Fixed price

We quote a fixed price for that scope, so there is no meter running.

  3. 03

    Data first

We model the entities, relationships and attributes people filter on before designing a page.

  4. 04

    Weekly staging builds

You see a working build on a staging address from the first week, then every week.

  5. 05

    Handover

You receive the code, the content and every account login, so you are never locked in to us.

Principles

Plain HTML where we can, JavaScript where it earns its place.

On static sites

A directory is a database with a website on top.

On directory sites

We build the rules engine first and the table second.
